Pyrithe

Pyrite is a mineral which can be found in backfill, and in the presence of humidity and oxygen, produces sulphuric acid, which reacts with the calcium carbonate, present in the crushed stone. This chemical reaction may cause the backfill to expand, damaging concrete slabs, foundations, as well as interior partitions and upper floors. An expert at Consultants SI will;

– require laboratory tests
– provide remediation procedures
– provide detailed structural plans if necessary
